10 Bucket List Destinations You Must Visit

Let’s explore the top 10 bucket list destinations for 2025:

Istanbul, Turkey

Istanbul is one of those bucket list destinations that combines culture, history, and culinary delights into one exciting experience. It was once the capital of two great empires and has much to explore.

Additionally, you can learn about the Ottoman and Byzantine past, try delicious Turkish food, or enjoy the busy streets and beautiful views of the Bosphorus. There’s something for everyone here!

Unmissable Things to Do in Istanbul

Step Into the Grandeur of Topkapi Palace

Explore the grand Topkapi Palace, where Ottoman sultans lived for centuries. Inside, you’ll find the Harem, the Imperial Treasury, and the stunning Marble Terrace. The palace is filled with treasures from history, showing the power and luxury of the past.

Plus, right next to it, Gülhane Park was a peaceful escape. I enjoyed the tall trees and spotted herons nesting above. Furthermore, the Procession Kiosk stood near the entrance as a reminder of where sultans once watched their troops march by.

Discover the Wonder of Hagia Sophia

Walking into Hagia Sophia, I felt I was stepping back in time. Built in the 6th century, its massive dome and golden mosaics make it one of the world’s most stunning buildings. Moreover, it has been a church, a mosque, and a museum, witnessing centuries of history.

Now, it’s an active mosque again. Worshippers pray on the main floor, while visitors like me can explore the upper gallery, where ancient mosaics and Viking graffiti remain. Plus, its beauty and history are still breathtaking even with these changes.

Discover Istanbul’s Bazaar District

Walking through the Grand Bazaar felt like stepping into a different world, full of colorful shops and hidden corners. But the adventure didn’t stop there. Following the locals, I found the Spice Bazaar, where the air smelled of rich spices.

Nearby, the Arasta near the Blue Mosque had unique souvenirs, making it the perfect place to find a remarkable memory of Istanbul.

Taste the Flavors of Istanbul

Food in Istanbul is more than just a meal—a celebration. People gather to share dishes, laugh, and enjoy the moment. Turkish food has been perfected over centuries but stays simple and flavorful. I tried meze, fresh salads, and kebabs, all made with seasonal ingredients. Every bite was delicious!

Santorini, Greece

If you love the Mediterranean, Santorini is a place you have to visit! Known for its stunning views, colorful cliffs, and whitewashed buildings, it’s like the supermodel of Greek islands. Additionally, with breathtaking sunsets and unique landscapes, it’s no wonder travelers dream of going!

Santorini is the kind of place that deserves a spot on everyone’s bucket list destinations for its picture-perfect scenery.

Top Things to Do in Santorini

Enjoy the Breathtaking Views

Santorini has fantastic views, and walking along the caldera is one of the best ways to take them all in. I loved the walk from Fira to Imerovigli, passing through Firostefani.

Plus, if you’re up for a challenge, keep walking to Oia—it’s a 6.5-mile (10.5 km) journey that takes about four hours. Just don’t forget water and sunscreen!

For the most magical sunset, Oia is the place to be. Every evening, crowds gather to watch the sun dip into the sea, and I must say—it’s worth it!

H5: Discover Santorini’s History

Santorini has a fascinating past. One of the most interesting places is Akrotiri, an ancient city buried by a volcanic eruption in 1613 BC. I found it incredible how well-preserved the ruins are. Moreover, if you love history, don’t miss the Museum of Prehistoric Thera in Fira—it helps piece together what life was like in ancient times.

Taste the Local Food & Wine

Santorini is famous for its delicious food and wine. The island’s signature wines include crisp whites and Vinsanto, a sweet dessert wine.

Moreover, about a dozen vineyards are on the island and many offer tastings with local snacks. A wine tour is a great way to experience the best of both if you love food and wine.

Take a Tour

I usually don’t book day tours, but it felt like the best way to see everything in Santorini. You can join tours for wine tasting, history, or sunset watching, but the most popular is a caldera cruise. The classic boat tour takes you to Nea Kameni and Palia Kameni, where you can hike to a volcano crater and swim in hot springs. It’s an unforgettable experience!

Santorini is a dream destination whether you love history and nature or relax by the sea. I can’t wait to go back!

Zermatt, Switzerland

For anyone who loves the mountains, Zermatt is one of the best bucket list destinations in the world. I don’t think I’ll ever forget Zermatt. This beautiful town in the Swiss Alps is genuinely remarkable. The views are stunning everywhere you look!

Things to Do in Zermatt

Enjoy the Scenic Beauty

I spent hours admiring Zermatt’s stunning views, from snow-covered peaks to the iconic Matterhorn. A day passed, and I explored Matterhorn, Gornergrat, and Riffelsee—each more breathtaking than the last.

Ride the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise

I hopped on the Matterhorn Glacier cableway, and it felt like stepping into a dream. Furthermore, at 4,478m, the Matterhorn is the most photographed mountain in the world—and once you see it up close, you’ll understand why!

Take the Gornergrat Bahn

This open-air electric train is a must-ride! Climbing to 3,089m, it offers incredible views of the Matterhorn. I took some of my best photos from the Gornergrat summit, especially at sunset.

End Your Day at the Matterhorn Museum

I ended my day with a visit to the Matterhorn Museum, and it was worth it! It gave a fascinating glimpse into life in old Zermatt and how people lived in the 19th century. The most unforgettable part? Seeing the historic rope from the first ascent of the Matterhorn is a tragic reminder of the four climbers who didn’t make it back.

Venice, Italy

If romance and history excite you, Venice should be high on your bucket list destinations. Italy is one of my favorite places! I’ve visited Rome and Florence and would gladly visit again, but Venice remains at the top of my list.

Best Things to Do in Venice

Take a Boat Ride

A gondola ride is a magical way to see Venice’s canals. Prices are set, so check Servizio Gondole signs and agree on the route before hopping in. Do you prefer something hands-on? Row Venice offers lessons where you can learn to row a traditional Venetian boat—even during happy hour!

Visit St. Mark’s Basilica

Venice’s most famous church is breathtaking. Its golden mosaics, marble floors, and grand domes make it unforgettable. I recommend booking tickets in advance to skip the long lines. One of my favorite spots was the Loggia dei Cavalli balcony, which offers incredible views over Piazza San Marco.

Explore Venice’s Museums

Venice is home to incredible museums, each offering a unique glimpse into the city’s history and culture. Gallerie dell’Accademia showcases breathtaking Venetian Renaissance art, while Palazzo Ducale is a grand Gothic palace filled with history.

The Museo Storico Navale is a must-visit for those interested in Venice’s maritime past. If you love science and nature, the Natural History Museum is perfect. It features dinosaurs, fossils, and fascinating exhibits for all ages.

Visit Nearby Islands

Take a vaporetto (water bus) to explore Venice’s islands. Murano is famous for its glassmaking, while Burano delights visitors with its colorful houses and handmade lace.

Torcello is a peaceful escape home to Venice’s oldest churches. Head to San Giorgio Maggiore for breathtaking city views and enjoy the stunning scenery.

Alaska, USA

Alaska is a wild and beautiful place, and a cruise is a great way to see its rugged landscapes without traveling long distances by land. For nature lovers, Alaska remains one of the ultimate bucket list destinations.

But you don’t need a cruise to explore—flights to Anchorage and Juneau make visiting easy!

Top 4 Adventures in Alaska

Ice Climbing in Wrangell-St. Elias National Park

Wrangell-St. Elias is the largest national park in the U.S., filled with mountains, glaciers, and rivers. Ice climbing at Root Glacier is an incredible experience, and I was amazed at how accessible it was for beginners. If climbing on ice isn’t your thing, hiking in the surrounding area is just as exciting!

Wildlife Spotting in Denali National Park

Denali is wild and full of adventure. With grizzly bears, wolves, moose, and stunning landscapes, it’s a dream for nature lovers. I loved how visitors can explore off the main trails to find their path, but staying alert is essential—wild animals roam freely!

Whale Watching in the Kenai Fjords

The Kenai Fjords National Park is home to Orcas, migrating whales, bald eagles, and mountain goats. A boat tour is the best way to see these incredible creatures up close. I kept my camera ready the entire time, and the glaciers and steep mountain cliffs made the trip even more breathtaking.

Sea Kayaking in Valdez

Paddling through the beautiful Prince William Sound was unforgettable. The area has over 220 bird species, land mammals, and sea creatures. Kayaking offers a peaceful way to explore, but if you prefer land, there are plenty of hiking trails to enjoy.

Kyoto, Japan

Kyoto is an excellent and magical place! It’s known as Japan’s cultural capital and has over 1,600 temples and 400 shrines. It is surrounded by beautiful nature and peaceful bamboo forests. Kyoto should be on your bucket list if you love history and tradition.

Things to Do & See in Kyoto

Arashiyama Bamboo Forest

Walking through Arashiyama Bamboo Forest feels magical. Sunlight peeks through the tall bamboo, creating a peaceful atmosphere. It’s a popular spot, so I suggest going early to avoid crowds.

I also loved walking along the Katsura River—it was calm and beautiful. The train to Arashiyama from Kyoto Station takes just 20 minutes.

Fushimi Inari Shrine

Fushimi Inari, just 15 minutes by train, is known for its 10,000 red Torii gates stretching up a mountain. The 5 km hike through them is fantastic!

Most people stay near the entrance, so I recommend going higher up for a quieter experience. Afterward, I enjoyed a coffee and cake at Vermillion Cafe, which has a great view.

Nishiki Market

Nishiki Market is the best place to buy food in Kyoto. You’ll find fresh sushi, grilled meats, mochi, and more. Additionally, I tried many things, but remember—eating while walking in Japan is rude!

Sannenzaka, Ninenzaka & Kiyomizu-dera Temple

These charming streets are lined with traditional shops and restaurants. I loved trying matcha tiramisu, visiting the Studio Ghibli shop, and grabbing unique souvenirs.

At the end of Sannenzaka Road, you’ll find the beautiful Kiyomizu-dera Temple. Moreover, it’s crowded, so I recommend going early to enjoy it fully!

Dubai, UAE

Dubai is a must-visit among bucket list destinations for its mix of futuristic skyscrapers and desert adventures. It is one of the most luxurious places in the world, renowned for its opulent hotels, high-end shopping, and extravagant attractions.

What to Do in Dubai

Dubai Mall

One of the biggest malls in the world! With 1,200+ stores, an aquarium, an ice rink, and even a cinema, there’s something for everyone. Even if you don’t shop, it’s a fun place to explore.

Burj Khalifa & Dancing Fountains

The tallest building in the world (828m)! There’s an observation deck, but it’s expensive and doesn’t offer a full 360° view. Instead, watch the dancing fountains in front of it—they’re excellent and free!

Dubai Creek

Dubai Creek is a historic waterway that runs through the city, offering a glimpse into its rich past. Take a traditional abra boat ride for just 1 Dirham. Nearby, the Dubai Museum showcases the city’s past. It is perfect for a budget-friendly cultural experience.

Desert Safari

A desert safari is an exciting adventure in the Arabian desert, featuring dune bashing, camel rides, henna tattoos, and a BBQ dinner under the stars. It’s a must-do experience, though it can be pretty touristy.

Paris, France

Paris needs no introduction. From its world-renowned landmarks to its charming cafés and beautiful streets, Paris is a destination that captivates every traveler. Whether it’s your first or tenth visit, Paris always deserves a spot on any bucket list destination.

Best Things to do in Paris

Experience the Magic of the Eiffel Tower

Paris’s most famous landmark, the Eiffel Tower, was built with 18,000 metal pieces and once held the title of the tallest structure in the world.

Standing at the top offers breathtaking views, especially on a clear day. It’s the perfect way to start a Paris adventure!

The Louvre is vast, with over 35,000 artworks on display! Don’t miss the chance to visit at night—Friday evening tours start at 6:30 PM for a magical experience!

Le Clarence is one of the best restaurants in Paris! Chef Christophe Pelé serves creative dishes like tempura shrimp and grilled red mullet inside a fancy mansion.

Don’t miss relaxing by the cozy fireplace with a coffee or a special drink after your meal!

Explore Modern Art at Bourse de Commerce

This stunning museum blends history with modern art. Inside, you’ll see bold paintings, powerful photos, and unique sculptures from billionaire François Pinault’s massive collection.

Swim in the Great Barrier Reef and see why it’s on so many bucket list destinations!

Stretching over 2,300 km along Australia’s coast, this underwater world is full of colorful coral, giant clams, rare whales, and hundreds of fish species. Dive deep, snorkel, or relax on the sandy beaches—no place like it!

Unforgettable Things to Do in The Great Barrier Reef

Explore the Great Barrier Reef in a mini-submarine

Just 45 minutes from Cairns, this three-person sub takes you underwater without the hassle of diving gear. Hop on board with a trip that starts right from the sandy shore to give you an incredible look at the unique marine life!

Ride an underwater scooter

Just off the coast of Cairns, I hopped on a Scuba-Doo—a cool yellow scooter with a big viewing dome. No diving gear is needed! A guide swam beside me as I cruised through the reef, spotting amazing sea life up close.

Sail Aboard a Private Yacht

With a crew on board, I cruised to the stunning Low Isles, home to extraordinary marine life. I jumped off the yacht for some of the best snorkeling on the reef—an unforgettable adventure!

Take A Scenic Flight

From high above, the ocean shines in different shades of blue, with hidden islands and coral patterns stretching for miles. You’ll see more from the sky than you ever could from the water.

Petra, Jordan

History enthusiasts will find Petra one of the most fascinating bucket list destinations. The ancient city comprises impressive buildings carved into sandstone cliffs, including the famous Al-Khazneh. Moreover, it has been around for thousands of years, making it a must-see for anyone who loves history!

Best Things to Do in Petra

Bab As-Siq

Every trip to Petra begins at Bab As-Siq, the path leading from the entrance to the Siq. Along the way, you’ll see ancient tombs and monuments like the Obelisk Tomb.

Siq

The Siq is a narrow canyon formed when a mountain is split. Walking through it feels like an adventure, with towering rock walls on both sides. Every turn builds excitement as you get closer to the famous view of the Treasury!

The Treasury

This is the most famous view in Petra! Carved into the sandstone mountains, the Treasury was built as a tomb for King Aretas III. It’s the highlight of Petra, but there’s still so much more to explore!

Hiking Through Petra

After passing the Treasury, I took an off-the-beaten-path trail for some of the best views. From the highest point, I could see Petra, the Roman ruins, and the path to the Monastery. The hike was a bit challenging, but it was worth it! Since the trail wasn’t marked, having a guide made all the difference.
